Clara Haluska Fodor
Linden, TN
Quilter/Embroiderer
Traditional Artist

About the Artist

As a young girl in her native Hungary, Clara Haluska Fodor remembed growing up with beautifully embroidered textiles. Years later, when she moved to the United States, Fodor continued many of the textile arts she knew as a child. As a tribute to her United States citizenship, she devoted much of her time and talent to depicting each of the fifty states. Utilizing appliqué, embroidery and quilting techniques, her work is both traditional and original.

Fodor passed away on June 4th, 2008.

During the exhibit’s tour, each state will have a display of the embroidered quilt featuring that state.

What is mastery to Fodor?
Fodor spent 1,500 to 2,000 hours embroidering each wall hanging. The satin stitches are so dense and uniform that the entire design appears to be pieced work, rather than embroidery.
